Easy Access:
Controlled Substances on the Internet

During a one week period of analysis, Beau Dietl and Associates discovered 495 sites offering controlled substances.

Two thirds of these sites were serving as transient chameleon like conduits or portals to purchase sites

There were 157 different sites where the drugs could be purchased (nineteen times out of twenty) without a prescription.

  • 144 of the purchasing sites offered Xanax, Valium.
  • 103 sites were offering Vicodin, Percodan, Duragesic patches.
  • 47 sites sold stimulants such as Ritalin, Adderall.
  • 2 sites sold barbiturates such as Seconal
  • There were no mechanisms to block children from accessing these sites.
  • At least half (perhaps as much as 75%) of the drugs were coming from outside the US
  • Both the Orlando DEA task force and Lake Mary Florida police department obtained Vicodin via internet without prescriptions
