Day Care Defense

Day Care Defense

“More knowledge is needed to teach what is needed in preschool than in college!”  Day Care providers should be regarded as “BRAIN ARCHITECTS”.

--Dr. Bruce Perry, brain development researcher

What’s the most Important thing we need to know about this?

  1. A baby’s brain is remarkably unfinished when it is born.
The outer world shapes its development.
The newborn brain is a seedling.
  2. It develops as a result of sensory interaction with others.
Every plant needs certain amounts of sun & water (stimulation & rest).
Certain activities (nutrients) help the seedling brain prosper as it grows.
A tree remains true to its seed of origin yet prospers according to the sun, water, soil it grows in.
  3. The brain develops according to the “use it or lose it” principle.
Traumatic experiences in early childhood can promote the development of anxiety.
Repeated sensory overload can lead to the development of attention deficits.
Neglect can lead to learning disabilities and attachment disorders.
It is important to recognize that all of these conditions may also be caused by other factors
