  • methane (manure)
  • carbon monoxide (fuel)
  • pesticide vapors

What you should know about lethal fumes...

  • They are often undetectable...Don’t count on being able to smell them!
  • Levels can (and should) be checked before entering suspect enclosures (confinements)
  • Confined space hazardous gas indicators are available by mail order through Gemplers (see www.gemplers.com)

Wear an S.C.B.A. (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus)

  • When disturbing manure sludge
  • When entering a confinement of animals disturbing their own manure sludge
  • When entering pre-vented silos
  • When using propane devices (power washers)
  • When applying vaporous pesticides
